WHEN: 27 October 2025, 14:00 to 16:00 CET
WHERE: Online (Zoom)
RISERS and The Hubs4Circularity Community of Practice invite you to an online knowledge exchange (sensemaking) workshop to finalise the proposal to replace End of Waste criteria with Standards.
This workshop offers a practical opportunity to shape a response to the European Commission’s public consultation on the upcoming Circular Economy Act . Your input will help influence how secondary raw materials are defined, regulated, and traded across the EU.
WHY:
The European Horizon RISERS project addresses the standardisation of Industrial Symbiosis (IS). One of the key aspects we’re exploring under RISERS how to standardise the transition from waste to reusable resources at EU, national, and local levels. Our approach introduces horizontal standards with general requirements (treatment processes, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, potential applications), linked to vertical standards for specific waste types. This system would enable waste to be repurposed without a waste management license, streamlining industrial symbiosis and accelerating the circular economy.
OBJECTIVE
To share current challenges, experiences, learnings and insights with the existing End of Waste criteria and process. To identify potential positives and negatives of the RISERS’ proposal to introduce standardisation as an alternative to the EoW process.
HOW:
This “sensemaking” workshop provides an interactive space where participants will be presented with, and can discuss, the proposal for an alternative EoW process. It will follow the “Sensemaking Methodology”* of What? So what? Now what?
WHAT? – The background to the topic area is presented.
SO WHAT? – Interactive discussion centred on what has just been presented.
NOW WHAT? – A synthesis of the workshop and formulation of next steps.

OUTPUT:
The expected output from the workshop is a collective contribution to the EU consultation on the future of End-of-Waste criteria that will be presented as a RISERS position.
WHO:
This webinar is open to policymakers, industry representatives, standards organisations and stakeholders.
