EPOS (Enhanced energy and resource Efficiency and Performance in process industry Operations via onsite and cross-sectorial Symbiosis)
The EPOS project (Enhanced energy and resource efficiency and Performance in process industry Operations via onsite and cross-sectorial Symbiosis) aims to foster cross-sectorial Industrial Symbiosis among five major global process industries (steel, cement, chemicals, minerals, and engineering) by offering technological and organisational solutions to enhance energy and resource efficiency, operational performance, cost-effectiveness, competitiveness, and sustainability.
SCALER (Helping industries increase efficiency through resource sharing)
SCALER (SCALing European Resources with industrial symbiosis) endeavours to enhance the adoption of industrial symbiosis throughout Europe by developing best practices, tools, and guidelines under the Horizon2020 program, facilitating efficient resource sharing among businesses and industrial sites to promote sustainable resource use, increase competitiveness, revitalise territories, and engage communities in transforming the European industrial landscape.
MAESTRI (Energy and resource management systems for improved efficiency in the process industries)
The MAESTRI project (Energy and resource management systems for improved efficiency in the process industries) endeavours to enhance the sustainability of European manufacturing and process industries by introducing a Total Efficiency Framework, consisting of a flexible management system and efficiency assessment tools, integrated with Industrial Symbiosis and IoT-based software platform, to facilitate decision-making processes, prioritise improvement strategies, and foster a culture of continuous improvement across four real industrial settings, spanning various activity sectors, over a 4-year period.
SHAREBOX (Secure Management Platform for Shared Process Resources)
The SHAREBOX project (Secure Management Platform for Shared Process Resources) was initiated under the Horizon 2020 program to promote industrial symbiosis. As part of this initiative, an online platform was developed to provide information on waste resources such as energy, water, and residues, presenting viable alternatives to primary resources for plant managers and key decision-makers.
CWA 17354 – Industrial Symbiosis: Core Elements and Implementation Approaches
TRIS (Transition Regions towards Industrial Symbiosis)
The TRIS (Transition Regions towards Industrial Symbiosis) project endeavours to catalyse the systemic adoption of Industrial Symbiosis (IS) across five European regions, empowering policymakers to enhance SME competitiveness through IS practices, thereby fostering sustainable growth, resource efficiency, and resilience, while actively engaging stakeholders and advocating for IS integration on the European political agenda.
SYMBI (Industrial Symbiosis for Regional Sustainable Growth and a Resource Efficient Circular Economy)
The SYMBI project seeks to improve regional development policies aligned with the Circular Economy strategy of the European Commission across seven countries. By promoting industrial symbiosis and circular economy principles, it aims to foster sustainable, resilient economies through material and energy savings, innovative business models, and the exchange of waste and energy by-products as secondary resources.
European network of businesses and SMEs for Industrial Symbiosis [CircLean]
The CircLean project, endorsed by the European Commission under DG GROW, addresses the challenges hindering the uptake of industrial symbiosis (IS) in Europe by enhancing awareness, establishing common standards for measuring and reporting IS transactions, and creating incentives for companies through the CircLean Label, aiming to evidence the economic, environmental, and social benefits of IS across industries and SMEs.
Creation Of new value chain Relations through novel Approaches facilitating Long-term Industrial Symbiosis [CORALIS]
CORALIS (Creation Of new value chain Relations through novel Approaches facilitating Long-term Industrial Symbiosis) is a Horizon EU-funded project focused on advancing decarbonisation in energy and resource-intensive industries through innovative Industrial Symbiosis (IS) solutions. By integrating new business models, advanced management practices, and cutting-edge technologies, CORALIS aims to promote sustainability across industrial value chains. The project addresses key technical, managerial, and economic challenges to define the IS readiness level, a critical metric for evaluating IS feasibility. It aims to develop a harmonised framework for monitoring and assessing IS impacts throughout their life cycle, implemented via a virtual assessment platform to optimise IS practices across industrial parks.
