Summary of the 2nd Plenary of the Industrial Symbiosis Standardisation Roadmap Working Groups

On 12 November 2025, RISERS held its hybrid Plenary of the Industrial Symbiosis Standardisation Roadmap Working Groups at the EIT House in Brussels, bringing together about 80 participants in total. The event gathered members of standardisation bodies, industry, researchers and policymakers to review the preliminary recommendations developed by the 10 RISERS Working Groups and to define the next steps towards creating the Industrial Symbiosis Standardisation Roadmap that will be developed by RISERS in 2026.

Keynotes from CEN-CENELEC, TU Dortmund and ECOS highlighted the strategic importance of harmonised standards, trusted data models and enabling policies to scale industrial symbiosis across Europe. Participants discussed regulatory gaps, digitalisation needs, end-of-waste challenges and 7 sector-specific symbiosis pathways, reinforcing the roadmap’s role as a foundation for future standards development and cross-sector resource efficiency.
